Alice - Resident Evil Miniature

Okay, so as Christmas approaches, my wait for my new Studio Miniatures bundle is as bad as that of a spoiled five year old, waiting in anticipation to see what Santa has brought them this year.

So this week, I thought I’d continue on from my last post, and show you all the other Studio Miniature sculpt I currently own.

This is Studios version of the Alice character from the Resident Evil movies, played by Mila Jovovich. This sculpt is representative of Alice, as seen in the third movie; Resident Evil Extinction.

This again, is another one of my favorite miniatures. I really feel this version portrays the character perfectly, and in my opinion, is a far superior miniature to portray the "Alice" character than that of most other miniatures I’ve seen depicting a similar character. One thing I really love about this miniature is that, being as it’s a portrayal of the character from the third movie, I can really see this miniature being a great asset in many other apocalyptic / sci-fi style games. I could quite easily see myself using her in the Mad Max, Road Warrior setting, a Blade Runner setting, or even a 2000AD Judge Dredd style game.

Anyway, hope all of you out there enjoy the miniature. I aim to post again before Santa comes, but if I don’t, have a great Christmas everybody!!!!!!!

Ash - Evil Dead Miniature

Last night I finally sat down and sorted out which miniatures I’m going to add to my collection this Christmas. This year I’ve decided on ordering a load of the survivor range from Studio Miniatures, as the two figures I currently own of theirs are amongst my prized possessions. Having said that, today I thought I’d share one of them with you, as this miniature alone is one of the reasons for my current interest into zombie wargamming.

This is Studios version of Ash Williams, epically played by the one and only Bruce Campbell in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead Trilogy.

I love the Evil Dead movies, and when I saw this miniature, I just had to have it. This is without a doubt one of my favourite minis I currently own. Both miniatures I own from this company are simply beautiful, hence why I am buying many more from them. They also sell a large range of zombie miniatures, while I don’t own any, I concur with many people out there that they are simply some of the best zombie miniatures on the market at the moment.

Finally I’d like to add, for those that are currently unaware, that while purchasing my miniatures, I noticed that their long awaited set of plastic zombies, are finally for sale on their site.

Barbarian Hero Miniature

So the other day I had a couple of hours to spare, the baby was out with the in-laws, and all the house work had been done for once. As I sat there, not knowing what to do with myself, I thought id look through some of my fantasy minis that are still in need of painting, as I currently don’t have any unfinished minis to paint for my zombie project.
Sorting through, I found this Barbarian figure, which I think is from Reaper Miniatures, staring at me. As it was already undercoated, and I was bored shitless, I couldn’t resist painting it up.

The Barbarian is slightly larger than most 28mm figures but is still within the scale. By design he is supposed to be of a larger, brutish form of a man. I bought this figure purely based on his size, as he would make an excellent unit champion/ hero in my Warhammer army, or a great D&D adventurer.

Anyway, I thought id share him, as this evening I have finally got round to toying around with the wife’s camera, and finally taken some pictures of a few of my miniatures.

A quick mention to our readers

Hi all, just a quick post from us Round Dave’s as I haven’t had anything really interesting to post for a couple of weeks, yet I have a few things id like to mention.

First of all I would like to give a mention and a thank you to Johnny, Bryan and Shelldrake, for being among the first to follow our little slice of randomness! Also to Bryan, we would like to wish you a happy birthday today.
Secondly I would like to thank all the guys over on the board of the living lead for all of their positive comments recently, and an extra thanks to Brummie for directing me to the board in the 1st place. I strongly advise anyone interested in Zombie wargaming to check it out.

Also, you can find links to all of the blogs of all of the people I have mentioned above in my blog list in the side bar. There’s some great stuff on there, so I urge you strongly to check them out.

Zombie City - Cheap Buildings and Roads

An example of my setup so far
Okay guys, so today DVD would like to show you the beginnings of the city for my zombie project. All of the terrain you see above is made from cardboard I’ve been collecting. So far I have a total of 11 buildings put together which are still yet to be textured, painted and finished, and enough roads finished to easily give me enough street layouts for this table twice over with many variations. And the best part, so far I’ve spent under £5 to get to this stage.

Flying Frog's Last Night on Earth Miniatures Painted

Last Night On Earth Heroes
Okay, so it’s again been a while since DVD posted anything but I have been fairly busy painting up some new survivor minis as well as a shed load of zeds for my zombie horde. Also I’ve started to construct some scenery for my zombie project, buildings, roads ect. Today however, id like to come back to a post I put up a while back regarding some “Last Night On Earth” miniatures I ordered. Well I’ve finally got round to painting them, and as the last post got quite a few views, id thought id show you all them and share my thoughts. Also, as many people may or may not know there are some horror stories floating around on the net regarding these minis, and how they hold up to being painted, so I’ll also ad a brief description on how I got my finished result and what I used. (P.S sorry for the picture quality)

"Metaphors" - Joe Dalton

So last week, instead of having our weekly game night at my place, we decided to go round Sam and Joe’s place for a change. Whilst there, Joe decided to whip out his instrument (not uncommon for Joe) and play us his new song "Metaphors" that he’s been working on. Being as we also tapped it, id thought id share it with you guys.

Get well soon Jerry!

We here round daves would like to pause our silliness for a moment to wish Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and his family our best wishes and hope for a speedy recovery.

As many people are aware, Jerry “The King” Lawler, the pro wrestler and broadcaster suffered a heart attack during Monday night’s broadcast of RAW. Latest reports state that ‘The King’ continues to remain in a stable condition and that he is currently being treated in the cardiac care unit of a Montreal hospital.

From all of us here, get well soon Jerry!

20 questions as answered by DVD!

A lot of the miniature gamming blogs that I’ve been reading recently have all been posting answers to a set of 20 questions on their blogs. Popular as it has been amongst other bloggers, I have decided to post my answers to the same questions.

Flying Frog's Last Night on Earth Miniatures

Last night I noticed that Flying Frog Productions are once again separately selling their hero miniatures from their zombie board game “Last Night on Earth”. At about £16 (once converted from $’s) for the 12 minis + postage from the US seemed a fair deal. Safe to say I couldn’t resist getting them for my zombie project.

DVD's U/B Planewalker Control Deck

It has been nearly a year since our little group stopped playing “Magic the Gathering”. But as the last few weeks we have been a little stuck for ideas on our Thursday game nights, last week the guys and I decided to brush the dust off of our boxes of cards and play a few games. It didn’t take long for us to get back into the swing of the game at all, as we sat there all evening, playing with our silly cards. And thus I thought id post a list of the deck I was using. Enjoy!

So I received tihs mgssaee & it’s all wirtten lkie tihs one; alparentpy it’s a new phenoemnon dcsiovered at Cambrdige Univeristy in whcih tehy tkae a senetnce and for ecah wrod tehy keep the frist letter and lsat leettr, tehn scbamrle the rimaineng mddile lteters. You can hvae a go at tihs at;

So I was like 'That’s cool', so I checked up on it and it turns out its not 100% true, it was never made at Cambridge
It was originally a letter to the new scientist magazine from Graham Rawlinson and he used the first two letters and last two.

However it does not work all the time

From Wiki scrambled
"Anidroccg to crad–cniyrrag lcitsiugnis planoissefors at an uemannd utisreviny in Bsitirh Cibmuloa, and crartnoy to the duoibus cmials of the ueticnd rcraeseh, a slpmie, macinahcel ioisrevnn of ianretnl cretcarahs araepps sneiciffut to csufnoe the eadyrevy oekoolnr."

"According to card-carrying linguistics professionals at an unnamed university in British Columbia, and contrary to the dubious claims of the uncited research, a simple, mechanical inversion of internal characters appears sufficient to confuse the everyday onlooker."

Still when it works it's pretty cool.

Climbing (Good work out much better than the gym)

This is my gym, 'cause the actual gym is boring and climbing is fun; pushing past your limits to get to the top, working out the path then forcing yourself up the wall cause you don’t want to give up or worse, fall off! And when you climb, you know you’re working a new muscle each week! I can feel a genuine improvement as I can climb for longer as well as climbing harder obstacles.
Also, everything is leveled, so you can start at 1 and keep climbing harder walls. There are probably around a 100 climbing paths; at least at the place I go to it's about 10 minimum per level ranging from under hangs, over hangs, vertical walls, slanted walls, some with sticky out bits and some with sticky in bits! So far, there seems to be enough to keep me climbing different walls each week and gradually moving to harder colours. Overall it’s a good work out (just 2 hours of rock climbing means losing 1320 kcals!) and fun to do.

Archery (Great fun now I know how Robin Hood felt)

Archery, what a fun sport, although I think I'm getting gradually worse as the weeks go by. Maybe it's because they keep moving the targets back. As a beginner you start with a 18 pound bow, (by 18 pound I mean the string strength not the price) after a few months when you have an idea of what you’re doing you may want to get your own bow. A 30 pound bow is what you will want unless your super strong.

I AM ALIVE- Ultimate Rescuer

This is a short game currently being sold on PSN. The game, as explained so thoroughly by the title, is a game based on staying alive. The game is set in a post apocalyptic American city "Haverton"... (nothing new there) and well since most games are based on staying alive this is no new concept either, except now your biggest enemy is your stamina bar, yes there is no need to threat of alien invasion, zombies, marines or any truly dynamic enemies trying to "fuck you up", you are simply more likely to die because you haven't got any more soda cans to increase your stamina bar and therefore choke to death or fall from a building (since climbing is a massive part of this game). This review however is not a dig at I AM ALIVE. In all fairness it is a good game, and since the play through is around 4-6 hours depending on how much you care about others survival (loads if you like trophies), you don't really have enough time to get bored of the game before completion.

Zombies!!! The Board Game

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of anything to do with the zombie genre. About a month ago, our little group were running out of games to play, so I picked up a little board game by Twilight Creations Inc. entitled simply as Zombies!!!

Zombies!!! is a simple, fast paced, tile/card based game in which players run around a plague infested city in an attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse. The idea of the game is to be the first person to either kill 25 zombies, or be the first to reach the awaiting helicopter and escape the infested city.

Three reasons why I will not go see Titanic 3D!

First of all, I would like to start by saying, since the good performances in films such as “The Departed” and “Inception”, the hate I felt for Leonardo DiCaprio had all but diminished and finally I could move on with my life. Life was peachy and all was right in the world until I was recently inundated with trailers and posters for “Titanic 3D”, and suddenly all of the anger from my teens for dear little Leo and this movie came flooding back.

Thus here are three reasons why I shall not be going to see Titanic 3D!

  1. Since I first saw this movie in the cinema in 1997, to the time of writing this, my opinion of this movie is still that of “I think this film is utter shit!”
  2. With the wonders of 3D technology giving the optical illusion that Leonardo DiCaprio is but a few yards away from me, and the fact that I still cannot punch him in his smug little face is for me, just too much to bear!
  3. Should I be in the cinema and all of a sudden find myself overcome with rage, and thus lash out at the ethereal Leo, I would look like an idiot for two reasons. A) Punching thin air, and B) Being caught in a cinema watching Titanic a second time round.

Halo Reach

Anyone getting a little excited? If you didn't already notice, the release date for Halo 4 has just been announced. I feel that this is a great opportunity to take a brief look at one of Bungie's previous releases (I should add that Bungie sold the Halo franchise to 343 industries fairly recently). Halo Reach. Now, as much as I enjoy the campaign in the Halo series I've always been more of a fan of the on-line multiplayer. For me it's always been a much more challenging, rewarding part of the game so I'll be referring to it and mentioning how if the Halo Reach multiplayer was a woman I'd give my left arm to be with her...or something. So, what's so good about Halo Reach?

Fifa 12 - PS3 Review (Online Play)

The whole point of a review is to give the writers stand point on the subject matter that is being reviewed, thus leading the reader to having a positive or negative review on said subject, by emphasizing the finer or failing points about the product with whimsical writing patterns, clever puns and through detailed breakdowns of plots and subplots.Without a doubt setting, them out in a way that makes you want to experience the product or steer clear due to the ramblings of an altogether "mad man" (yes that's me). Well to put it simply, Fifa 12 has no plots or subplots, neither does it have a compelling story or even a real purpose to "complete". Fifa is simply a theatre, where gamer's can pit their skills against one another on one of the finest arena's ever conceived... a football pitch.

Angry Birds Space

In Space no one can hear you squeal.......
With a combined 700 million+ downloads across all platforms and having 3 of its game variations in the top 10 most downloaded games of all time, Angry Birds is certainly not a game to be missed.
but when talk began of another Angry Birds title due to be released in early 2012 I was skeptical and wanted to see how another rehash of the same game was going to be received.

Toilet Humour

I read this and I unashamedly laughed!
Ghost Poop ~~ You know you've pooped. There's poop on the toilet paper, but no poop in the bowl.

The Perfect Poop or Teflon Coated Poop ~~ Comes out so slick, clean and easy that you don't feel it. No traces of poop on the toilet paper. You have to look in the toilet bowl to be sure you did it!

Gooey Poop ~~ This has the consistency of hot tar. You wipe your butt 12 times and it still doesn't come clean. You end up putting toilet paper in your underwear so you don't stain it. This poop leaves permanent skid marks in the toilet.

Second Thought Poop ~~ You're all done wiping your butt and you're about to stand up when you realize've got some more.

The Hunger Games: Yes, It Was A Book First!

After reading Mr.D's riveting film review on this, I felt compelled and inspired to write a book review on this. That's right folks, it was a book first!

Whilst the film is indeed fantastic and most definitely worth seeing in the cinema, I would strongly recommend that you read it as well; read it before or after watching the film, it won't matter - I can guarantee the book will be better.

"I Am Sam" Film review.

OK, so amidst my crazy, full on life which consists of me waking up, eating food that isn't good for me and playing video games, I've managed to find time to watch an old film that I last saw on a plane many, many years ago. I Am Sam. The story of a mentally challenged man who fights to maintain custody of his daughter. This truly is a film that grabs you by the heart and refuses to let go.

Shit I Watched: A Clockwork Orange

Originally a book by Anthony Burgess, "A Clockwork Orange" was transformed into an X-rated movie via Stanley Kubrick and was banned in the UK for over 20 years.

The story begins in a bar, with the main character Alex and his gang dressed in White attire with plastic cod pieces similar to that of a cricketer. They wear black bowler hats and makeup around their right eyes. A synthesized piece of classical music plays in the background as Alex stares through the screen and into your room.

Suddenly, in comes the narration. Cockney rhyming slang mixed with some Russian dialect all spoken in a way that lets you understand every single word without too much thought.

Not even ten minutes into the film there is fighting, raping and beating people half to death after which they rob them of their possessions. Straight away this breaks you into the film at a frantic pace, one that lasts the entire film.

Shit I Watched: The Hunger Games

A couple of weeks ago i got dragged by the missus to go and see "The Hunger Games". Didn't know what to expect and gotta say i was really surprised. I enjoyed the premise of the whole thing (kinda like Battle Royale but with more meat to the plot).

Shit I Watched: The Piano Movie Review

Accidentally endded up watching The Piano with Dave VanDam, a film that started off boring and not a film I would want to watch just on in the background but turned out to be a really strange, interesting film.

Hobo With A Shotgun DVD Review

A couple of months ago I bought this film, and I really don't know what to say! The plot is terrible, the script is terrible, and generally this film has no point at all! As bad as it is, I really enjoyed it but I don't know why. The only way I can describe this film is as being the movie equivalent to playing something like Grand Theft Auto for a couple of hours and not doing any of the missions, but instead running around pointlessly killing people, blowing things up and causing general mayhem for the fun of it! (We've all done it)
